DPSimulation - About Us/FAQ

I've been getting a lot of queries recently about who we are, what we do, why we do it or the famous "I didn't know it was you who did that!".

I have updated the "About Us" section of the website to include a new FAQ which should hopefully explain more about who I am and why I choose to do what I do.

The FAQ can be found by following this link.

Train Simulator 2013 - East Coast Main Line Occlusion Upgrade

I have just released an occlusion upgrade for the East Coast Main Line (Newcastle to York) route. This upgrade contains occlusion assets placed at all overbridges along the route as well as at major station structures. The result means that the in-cab ambience is enhanced when driving under these bridges with a much more realistic shadow being cast. This also provides the added advantage of no rain penetrating unrealistically into major station buildings.

The upgrade can be downloaded by following this link.

Train Simulator 2013 - Dutch Class 37 Pack

I am pleased to announce that the Dutch Class 37 pack has been released. This pack contains reskins of the Class 37 included with the Edinburgh to Glasgow route, available from Steam and this is required for the reskins to work.

Class 37 - Dutch Livery

Another Class 37 reskin, but one that has been well requested and one that I have wanted to do for a while. As with the other recent Class 37 reskins, this comes with all new and unique 3D models, this time both the depot and BR plaque.

Steam Summer Sale - First Look

So, the Steam Summer Sale is upon us and after all the anticipation, is it worth it?

Well, first impressions are really, really good, it's certainly a much more impressive start than last year when I believe that everything just had a simple 50% off blanket thrown over it. So what stands out right now, bearing in mind these discounts could be very fluid, here is my pick....

London to Faversham High Speed   -   £4.99
One of the best routes to date for the simulator, also includes the Class 395 "Javelin". An absolute bargain at 80% off.

BR Class 87  -  £4.79
A relatively new release, many were holding off buying this until a sale and at £4.79, another bargain. It's also worth noting that there is a Virgin reskin of this locomotive on the DPSimulation website as well which includes all 35 nameplates.

BR Class 31  -  £4.79
Similar to the Class 87 above, many were waiting for a sale, 60% off seems sufficient to me.

BR Class 101  -  £4.79
Same as above.

Western Lines Of Scotland  -  £14.99
Arguably worth buying at double the price, £14.99 for an absolute masterpiece.

BR 4BIG EMU  -  £3.59
A lot of train here for 70% off, it's one of those that is worth buying even just to have variation in AI.

Isle Of Wight  -  £5.99
Always regarded as the earliest pre-requisite for third party route building and used by many, many fantastic free routes. It's not actually a bad little route in itself as well, doesn't often get that recognition.

Settle to Carlisle  -  £12.49
A very, very picturesque route with a good bundle of stock included. I also believe the scenarios are pretty good too. :)

Edinburgh to Glasgow  -  £12.49
Still remains my favourite route, even now. There is also the small matter of a free scenery extension available from the DPSimulation website.

Class 444  -  £4.79
If you don't want it that much, buy it nothing more than the reasons described for the 4BIG above, adds variety to the Portsmouth Direct Line.

Network South-East Class 47 and Green & Gold HST  -  £1.19
Costs less than something on the McDonalds saver menu, more varation for your routes if nothing else. Enough said really.

Class 325 EMU  -  £3.59
Again, something you may not care to drive much but adds fantastic variety to WCML North and utilises the Shieldmuir Mail Depot on the route. Can also be happily used on your third-rail routes too.

Class 158 DMU  -  £4.79
The staple of so many routes currently available for TS2013, it's probably one of the most utilised items of stock available and it has a flurry of reskins out there ready to download. £4.79? A no brainer.

Internet Meltdown!

Surely I don't even need to announce to the TS2013 community exactly what is going on here?

Regional Railways Class 37 - ETH/ETS Update

Following a post on a forum yesterday quite rightly pointing out that the locomotives included in this pack had ETH/ETS equipment attached, I have added this to the locomotive and there will be an update shortly.

Donation Widget - Increased Target

Just a quick bit of information in case anybody had noticed (and was wondering why) the donation target on the widget has increased.

As I stated originally, the widget would have a fluid total which would change depending on how the site was used and when content was added. With more content being added, more people discover the site and usage increases meaning that I have to increase how much I pay every month**.

Although donations have dried up a little recently, I am astounded at the overall support received so far and want to thank all those that have helped. Also, thanks to those who purchased items from me in order to help the cause, although 40% of the revenue from these items ended up being spent on postage, the sale of the items has also helped.

As ever, if you do appreciate what is done by DPSimulation then feel free to donate. As the site goes from strength to strength and numbers increase, costs will keep increasing so any donations are always gratefully received.

** Over the past 12 months or so, costs have been increasing by 20-50% month on month. We are also now averaging around 6000-7000 downloads per week of the content available on the site as well as 10000+ weekly visitors.

Along with the reskin itself, the package also includes all 35 nameplates carried by the class whilst in Virgin livery, all represented in the correct font and all fully selectable using the scenario editor. Documentation is provided within the package explaining the numbering system.

**  This initial release is version 1. It is likely that the reskin will be updated at some point in the future.
